This dystopian story fulfills any requirement of plausibility in order to suspend belief. Although it describes a future that is actually against the trend. The exodus of elites from the countryside or suburbia into large dense cities is the phenomena we currently live in. The chances of the inner city developing this kind of heroine told in this story doesn’t fit with the demographic projection.
Still, it’s extremely encouraging to have the heroine be a person of color. The city described, the NYC slang used, and the hints at a higher story are all pieces hopefully of a much bigger puzzle.
